Hello all my friends and family. As I continue preparing for my bike tour, I have been getting my trike ready for my ride. I wanted to take a few minutes to explain to you the type of trike I have and quickly go through some of the gear that I will be using on my trike. This is not a complete list of my touring gear, I will write about that in an other blog.
My trike is called a Tour II made by the Terra Trike company. It is equipped with a front and rear derailer that gives me 27 gears to be able to obtain the desired speed that I am wanting on my ride as well as giving me the lower gear range for being able to climb those mountain passes that I will be facing. This trike sits low to the ground and gives me only 12.5 ” of ground clearance. It has Marathon Tires for the long trip. My trike is equipped with a cycling computer to monitor both my speed and distance covered. The bright yellow color helps keep me visible to other motorists which gives me a small level of safety.
As you walk around my trike, you will notice that I have a nice wide side with an added cushion to keep me comfortable all day. I have mirrors on both sides to keep an eye on traffic. On my right steering bar, you will notice my parrot which also is my horn. My wife, Cindy, and I built the seat back rack that also serves as my head rest. Attached to the seat back rack is a black multipurpose bag. This bag has many pockets and a deep inside storage area. In these pockets, I have included my bike tools, tire repair kit, chain repair kit, extra lights, extra tubes for my tires, and all of my charging devices that I will be using for my trip. I carry two extra battery cells and two solar powered chargers to keep my cell phone, camera, and tablet charged.
For safety, you will notice that I have a white light on the front of my trike and a red light on the rear. I also have many flags to help others to see me and also to explain a little of what I stand for. My flags are as follows: (on the right side) American Flag, Navy Flag, and Army Flag. (on the left side) Christian Flag, POW/MIA Flag, and PTSD Awareness Flag. These flags are always going to be flying while I am riding my trike. They are easy to see and recognizable to everyone.
Mounted on the front boom of my trike is my action camera. This is an Ion Air Pro Lite with built in WIFI capability. I will be using this camera for both video and still photos. This will allow me to post videos to YouTube and to keep everyone updated with some of my favorite photos.
Thank you for reading and please be sure to follow me for more updates. If you have any questions regarding my trike or any of the items listed, please ask me in the comments section. If you have any questions for me, please feel free to ask.
Please request me as a friend on Facebook at: Gregory Hook. My GoFundMe Account is up and running. I am attempting to raise awareness for veterans suffering from PTSD and my goal is $25,000 to be used for the Christian Warriors Retreat Center : christianwarriorsretreat.org.
